PNW NAVHDA South Region Advanced Training Program

The Pacific Northwest NAVHDA Chapter South Region 2019 Advanced Training Program will begin January 5th, 2019. This training is designed to help support those participant specifically interested in NAVHDA testing in the Utility Prep, (UPT), Utility, (UT) and invitational tests. We want participants to be serious about running their dogs in the NAVHDA testing system. NAVHDA tests are designed to test hunting scenarios and a UPT / UT trained and tested dog is an excellent hunting companion that hunts in cooperation with their handler. This training program is not for those who aren’t serious about testing their dogs in NAVHDA tests. Great hunting dogs are a result of much time and effort devoted to training. It has been our experience that with the efforts of the owner and support from our training team, the dog and handler can become true partners in the field.

The first 5 training days for UT and UPT training will cover the fundamentals:

  • Heeling, sit, stay, come, crate training, etc

  • Whoa training

  • Force fetch training

After 5 sessions of fundamental training dogs will be tested to determine their skill level and ability to progress to the next 5 sessions. At that time training will be directed at their desired tests.

  • Duck drag

  • Steady at the blind duck retrieve

  • Field search and steadiness

This year, we will have 4 sessions aimed at preparing the handler and dog for the NAVHDA NA test.
